Historic 1940s character,
renovated for how you live now.
The Drake is a collection of historic 4- and 6-plex brick buildings spread across three streets in Kansas City’s West Plaza District. Each building has its own character — different architecture, different feel, different views — but the same standard: hardwood floors throughout, thoughtful renovations, and a neighborhood you’ll actually want to come home to.
We updated what needed updating. The rest we left alone because it was already right.
The Drake isn’t one building — it’s a collection. Each street has its own architectural personality, floor plan mix, and vibe.
The anchor of The Drake — a row of classic 6-plexes set along the tree-lined parkway. These units don't feel like apartments. Crown molding, dark hardwood floors, dedicated dining rooms, and kitchens with granite counters and stainless appliances give them the bones of something older and better-built. In-unit laundry, off-street parking, and layouts with real separation between living spaces. Roanoke is for people who want a home, not just a place to sleep.
Holly Street is where the balcony actually earns its keep. These brick 4-plexes are built around deep covered porches that look out over a quiet, tree-lined residential street — the kind of view you sit with your coffee and don't want to leave. Inside, the units are bright and easy: warm walls, dark hardwood floors, white kitchen cabinets, granite counters, and French doors that blur the line between inside and out. In-unit laundry included. A good fit for someone who wants a neighborhood that feels like one.
The most renovated buildings in The Drake collection. Mercier was taken down to the studs and rebuilt — new LVP floors, two-tone green and white kitchens with quartz counters and gold hardware, walk-in tile showers with frameless glass, mini-split HVAC for individual room control, and in-unit laundry. The bones are 1940s brick. Everything else is new. Steps from Roanoke Parkway, without the parkway price.
You’re sitting between Westport and the Country Club Plaza — two of Kansas City’s most vibrant destinations — with Roanoke Park around the corner.
“The sunroom sold me in the first ten minutes. Three years later it’s still my favorite part of the apartment. There’s nowhere else in KC you get this for this price in this neighborhood.”
“Walking distance to Westport and the Plaza is real, not a stretch. The hardwood floors, the brick walls, the balcony — it feels like an apartment in a city that takes itself seriously.”
“I’ve lived in newer buildings. This one has more character in the stairwell than most apartments have in the whole building. The renovations are tasteful — they didn’t ruin it.”
